Tax Law

If you are an individual or a small business and owe substantial amounts of money to the Federal or State Governments, or have not filed tax returns, or are facing a tax audit, a tax levy, tax lien or wage garnishment, Ralph Mazer Law can help. There are laws that can help a person with substantial unpaid tax debt, and under certain circumstances can reduce or eliminate that tax debt.

Mazer Law also engages the services of a Tax Preparer and a Certified Public Accountant to assist you with your tax needs.

Ralph Mazer has special training in tax law. After finishing law school, he spent an additional four years of study in Tax Law and Estate planning, and has a post-doctoral Master’s Degree in tax law (LLM Tax).

IRS Liens, Levies or Seizures:

If you have received notice of an impending tax lien, levy or seizure, you have a very limited period of time to act to protect your assets. Congress has enacted laws that place strict time limitations in order to allow the IRS to collect unpaid tax debt. However, Congress has also enacted laws that can protect the taxpayer if the taxpayer acts before those time limits expire. In these matters, where your real estate, bank accounts, wages and other assets are in serious jeopardy, it is very important to obtain knowledgeable representation as soon as possible.

IRS Installment Agreements and Offers in Compromise:

If you have large amounts of unpaid tax debt, you may qualify to have that debt reduced by an offer in compromise. Depending on the circumstances, an offer in compromise can potentially result in a very large reduction in the IRS tax debt. Unfortunately, not everyone qualifies for an offer in compromise, and many offers in compromise are rejected by the IRS. However, Ralph Mazer has many years of experience in preparing Offers in Compromise, negotiating the details with the IRS, and handling appeals.

If you have small amounts of unpaid tax debt, you can probably work out an installment agreement without the help of an attorney. However, an installment agreement for large amounts of unpaid tax debt can be very difficult to obtain and in that instance many clients are well advised to seek professional help from a Tax Attorney.

Unfiled Taxes: If you have unfiled business or personal taxes we can help you to get them prepared and filed

IRS Appeals: Once the IRS makes a decision there are strict time limitations and procedural reviews that must be followed to result in a successful appeal. If you miss the deadlines, or use the wrong procedure you may be unable to stop IRS collection activity. We can help you with the IRS appeal process.

Representation in Tax Court: Tax Court offers many advantages to the taxpayer with a dispute with the IRS. Unfortunately, there are very limited circumstances where a taxpayer can even get in to Tax Court. Ralph Mazer is admitted to Tax Court and can help you with representation in Tax Court.
